Select and integrate 3D scanning to suit the task
I work with you to clarify system and process selection. For an individual scan or reverse-engineering component, you can commission component development directly.
Capture geometry or produce inspection evidence?
Reconstruction, installation-space planning and inspection have different requirements. First we clarify what the data must demonstrate and how it will be checked. A visually convincing mesh is not yet evidence for component approval.
Component size, surface and accessibility
Size, material, surface behaviour and accessible viewing directions determine what can be captured optically. Higher resolution does not reveal hidden areas. Missing geometry requires additional data or another agreed method.
Resolution, stated accuracy and measurement uncertainty
Resolution describes detail capture, while a stated accuracy applies under specified conditions. Application-specific measurement uncertainty also depends on the component, method and environment. A datasheet value is not a universal measurement guarantee.
Referencing, environment and repeatability
Fixturing, referencing, environmental conditions and repeat capture belong in the trial task. For demanding inspection tasks, I involve qualified external metrology for the project. Requirements for measurement evidence and approvals are clarified before system selection.
Representative trial task and comparison criteria
We select a representative component and agree data quality, processing effort, repeatability and handover requirements before comparison. This supports a reasoned system and process choice rather than a decision based only on manufacturer specifications.
From scanning to CAD, inspection and manufacturing
Data revisions, coordinate systems and interfaces must fit the next step. Hack and Benelli illustrate reconstruction and geometry comparison, the Jeep installation-space capture, and KOH practical use and knowledge transfer. The required scope of inspection depends on the particular application.
Training, partner roles and commissioned outcome
Within the agreed scope, you receive agreed requirements, a reasoned system and process selection, and a pilot and implementation plan. Training fits tasks and prior knowledge; my own work and partner services are agreed separately.
Which scanner is right?
The task determines the comparison criteria. Size, surface, accessibility, required evidence and the downstream process matter more than one datasheet value.
Can a scan capture every hidden surface?
No. Optically hidden surfaces require other viewing directions, additional data or another suitable method.
Do I need my own system for one part?
Not necessarily. A single scanning or reconstruction task can be commissioned through component development. Introducing your own system is a separate decision.
How does implementation begin?
With the task, an example component and the required evidence. We clarify inputs, a representative trial and responsibility for data, checking and operation.
