Jeep: integration without permanent modifications

After removing the rear bench seat of my Jeep, I integrated a platform into the interior. The design was intended to avoid irreversible changes to the vehicle.

Starting point

The platform was intended to fit the existing interior geometry without permanently modifying the body or vehicle.

Scan the interior

I scanned the interior and designed the connectors based on the captured geometry. The platform is attached using precisely fitting 3D-printed PET-CF elements.

PET-CF is a carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic. Printing is used only where the individual shape of the interface is needed.

Platform and printer frame

Aluminium profiles, film-faced plywood and standard parts form the hybrid construction together with the printed interfaces:

  • Aluminium profiles
  • Film-faced plywood
  • Standard parts
  • 3D-printed PET-CF interfaces
  • TPU elements to decouple the printer frame

TPU is an elastic plastic. The elements separate the printer frame from the vehicle so that driving movements are not transmitted to the printer without damping.

Installation and use

I also tested the printing function while driving. This test shows that the concept works; it is not a safety approval or regulatory authorisation.
