Foundry: topic overview
For foundry work, I combine reverse engineering, scanning, CAD comparison and printing with the subsequent casting process. This topic page links to the documented individual cases.
Printed pattern or directly printed sand mould?
A reusable printed pattern serves subsequent mould making. In binder jetting, sand moulds or casting cores are printed directly from moulding material and binder. These are different process chains with different verification tasks.
I clarify whether a printed pattern or a directly printed sand mould is appropriate based on component requirements and with the partners responsible for manufacturing and casting.
- Clarify geometry, quantity and alloy with the foundry partner.
- Assess moulding and core material, binder, core removal and gas evolution.
- Agree surface requirements, casting approval and partner roles for the specific application.
